CD Song Contest! [Done]
It’s Debs!
Errol and I are in the process of choosing songs for our upcoming CD! We have our favourites, but we would like to write a few new ones too. Personally, I’m thinking very seriously about a soulful ode to a neti pot.[1] We don’t want to make all the creative decisions though. Since the CD is fan-funded [2] (and fan requested!), we want you have a say on what goes on it. Our diabolical plan is as follows:
Comment here, and give us your random, funny, geeky song titles or ideas by May 21st, 2011![3] We will choose our 10 favourite and then let you vote. Whichever one wins (and this is completely up to you), we will write that song and it’ll appear on the CD this August. Errol’s nervous.[4] I think this is made of win.[5]
Errol: And what does the winner get? Why, OUR CD! HUZZAH!
Edit (May 23rd):
Ok! The Titles/Themes have been selected and here is the poll! Sorry if your choice wasn’t selected, but there were a few reasons why we couldn’t pick some (like if there were similar songs now or if it was too close to a song that we already have on the CD, etc). So, please vote for which one you like best!
Poll closes on June 1st.
Edit (June 1st):
Errol: And we have a winner! Yes! Eric August’s title suggestion of “Timmy the Combat Wombat” has won the contest! That is so exciting. He will get a CD for sure! Thank you ALL for your entries. That was so cool. I have to do more of these contests.

Ohhh, I want a song about either the Schrödinger equation or some other quantum stuff. (The worst pronounciation of “Schrödinger” I ever heard was “s cr oi din cher”.) Non-commuting operators? Or about how optics designer (like Dietmar…) always stay at the movies until the very end of the film to see whether the movie was filmed with ARRI or Panavision cameras to see whether they used the Zeiss lenses. (ARRI has them, just in case you were wondering.) Watching a movie with optics designers is also geeky: “Good thing we put all the work in on the near field.” was one comment on “King Kong”, a movie filmed with Zeiss lenses and watched at some divisions Christmas event… And they constantly watch out for reflexes. Even I can spot them now. And whether the thing is filmed with anamorphics. Like “Last Samurai”. Where the candles in the background look more elliptical than round.
This is getting way too long… But you go ahead and do that CD and I’ll look at the “funding”-stuff.
Something about spaghetti…
Errol, I want to hear a song called “Magnets are Cool”! Because we all know they are….
I want “Skeletor in Love”. How can you go wrong?
How about “Shakin all over”?
What, too soon? It’s okay, I live here and am inundated with aftershocks daily!
or
“Let’s go, Gojira!” At least something good will come out of this radiation.
Hmm. how about a song about why pi or 3.14..etc keeps on going and going.
“How will I ever Stay Puft” A tribute to Ghostbusters and erectile dysfunction.
“Mimosas in Middle-Earth”.
An ode to Saturday morning cartoon commercials.
“After these messages, we’ll be riiiight back!”
I would like to hear a song called “Aunt Beru’s Tupperware Party.”
Since Debs is the bestest hugger in the whole world, she should have a song about Debs’ superduper hugs emporium!
Hey there Debs & Errol. You could write a song about an 80 year old lady who gets an extreme makeover. If you want.
Board games and/or board gaming!
great idea, debs + errol!….
hmm, let me get the ol’ skliar brain workin here and i’ll see if i have any ideas for ya!
(ie- i’ll get back to ya!)
great website, btw!
Since the director of SETI is coming in to town to give a free lecture next month, I’d like to hear something about SETI and/or the WOW! signal. Throw in some Mulder/Scully or Picard action and…I mean, I’d play it at my wedding.
for some reason I keep returning to the idea of doing a song about pi (3.1415926 etc)
I don’t know why. wait, I do know why! anyway, mmmm, pi!
🙂

The Pi Song! I loves it 😀
I remember this! See, EVERYONE has a pi song!
Chelsea Manders, whom you may remember from our Banana Festival, has a song about Pi too … a rather naughty little one, in fact. 😀
If there is one thing for sure, it’s that there haven’t been enough songs written about Quantum Leap. And who better to write one? 🙂
I only want to choose a song for you if I get to write it with you!
Deej, you can write all sorts of songs with us!!
Debs said I wasn’t allowed anywhere near this project. 😉
Did not!
I believe Deej. And would be wary of debs wrath as well..
Eddy the Eddy Current Fell In Love (you could even talk about how an eddy current pulls aluminum and doesn’t repel it or something geeky like that)
A Virus Ate My Cookies
I left my geometrical shapes in plane sight
My forgetful speakers took a yoga class but now we don’t know the Ohms
The evil composer and his pint size twin Midi Me

Do You Love Me More Than You Love Boba Fett?
a true story…
do you have any songs about dungeons and dragons (and/or other roleplaying games)?
i’m terrible with titles, though! hmm how about…
“rolled this way” (parody on lady gaga’s “born this way”)
“monster manual of love”
“bag of holding (you)”
“my DM hates me” (maybe debs complaining about how errol the dm treats her character, and errol, of course, defending himself)
ok, that’s all i’ve got for now…
How about: My Bone Eating Snot Flower
(It’s a real animal! How about that?)
Whoa, so it is! It’s cool looking too!
There are 10 kinds of people in the world – those that can read binary and those that can’t
