Comic 621 – “Last Debs Day”

DAE_130429_621M_LastDebsDay

Errol: I will not see Debs for a while again. Now, Debs has been gone for long periods of time before. I missed her then and I will miss her again.

As you know, she is very talented. She writes music effortlessly. She finds harmonies with nary a thought. She has a crazy range of musical abilities and she is great at what she does.

Debs and I argue a lot over music, but we agree more than we disagree. She works hard on her songs and when we write music together, I think it goes rather smoothly. She is a wonderful music partner.

On stage, for some reason, she and I click. Our first performance was completely surprising to both of us, because we fell into our roles naturally. We don’t rehearse our banter. I don’t even know what I will say when we get on stage. But when the lights come on, it’s like I’ve been performing with Debs for many years.

I know she knows a lot of musicians and I know a lot of her musical friends may be a tad bit jealous that _I_ get her as a band mate. And I am fiercely proud that she is Debs of Debs & Errol.

Debs is my friend. I share many things with her.

Bye, Debs! Have a great time! I will miss you.

Debs: The rumours are true! I’m spending most of the summer away, WWOOFingΒ in Quebec and the Maritimes. Tomorrow, I’m catching a ride with my brother to Montreal and staying with a friend for a few days. Then it’s off to a family farm about an hour and a half east of Montreal where I’ll be farming/Totoro-Shaker Knitting for two and a half weeks or so before coming back to Toronto for Anime North.Β

Playing in the dirt for a summer is going to be really good for me. Being away from all of you here is going to be hard though. I do have data on my phone, so provided it works there I’ll still be able to keep in touch that way and really, I’ll be in Toronto every few weeks so it won’t be so bad. But yes. Contrary to what a lot of the comics say, I feel really lucky to be one half of D&E, and even luckier to have Errol as a bandmate and a friend. Β Poor mushy Errol. I should deliberately lose one of your knitting needles; that would sort you right out. I kid!Β

  1. See you when you get back Debs- hope the time away will be everything you need.

  2. Wait…Errol is complaining that someone ELSE isn’t sticking to script?? Really?!?!

That said, I am already missing Debs as a roomy and he apartment as a whole. πŸ™

    • Wait… you have a blog? How did I not know you had a blog?

Wait.. I DID know you had a blog and you wouldn’t share it. And now it’s shared? πŸ˜€

      • Perhaps James edited the comment after he realized he’d mentioned his blog and so didn’t want to draw attention to that… That worked  πŸ™‚ That’s ok it’s been mentioned in a podcast before, so enterprising individuals may have read it already. Who knows? Certainly not this eHermit…

      • I am glad I am not the only one confused by that. I thought maybe he was referencing one of my favourite moments from the podcast but I know Fishbrain doesn’t remember that stuff.

      • Oh so you hadn’t even mentioned the blog? Then that’s just odd..

I think you are right.. That was an example of going off script… Got it… Then he mentioned the service it was on and that gave me the clue to finding it πŸ™‚ though I can’t seem to repeat the process..

      • ROFL. Leave it to Errol… I probably should have linked my nano project to my gravitar. Oh well, too late now. And it went outside of my regular genre, so I’m not sure how I feel about it anyway. This is not even close to being typical of my writing.

      • Weird… I’m not seeing peoples blogs linked to from their gravatars.. unless you all just suddenly removed them..

Though I did find Ja-Mez’s again… he hasn’t really tried to hide it or I’d not be mentioning it this much. πŸ™‚

      • All that sleuthing for my Blog?? I really don’t know if it was worth all that trouble, it wasn’t a very good blog. πŸ˜›

  3. Debs, we’re all going to miss you. Of course, if you can get your hands on wifi every now and again, it will be almost like you never left (for those of us not in Canada, that is). That would make us lucky in that odd, “we’re always deprived, so starving doesn’t phase us” sort of way.

I kid. We will miss you tons. Hopefully you’ll be able to get on line sometimes to update us. I want to see pictures! I hope you learn lots, have fantastic adventures, and most of all enjoy yourself safely. Have a fantastic and productive trip. Safe trip, safe home.

Merry meet and merry part until merry meet again.

  4. Awww, man? Who will be bad at DDR with me? Have a good time Debs! I hope it’s relaxing and you get the recharge you need! Can’t wait to see you in June!

    • Or before then! I’ll be back for the May long weekend (Anime North) And don’t worry, there will be lots of time to be bad at DDR! Because I don’t think we’re getting better at it any time fast…hehe!

      • Heh. thought someone would feel that way. πŸ™‚

Okay so I’m sitting at my computer doing some work, and this was right around the time you launched the Indigogo, and the undead crawler videos. My mom comes in and says she has a Debs and Errol video she bets I’ve never seen. My mom and I do this every so often. Fun little low stakes silly bets. The topics are pretty much never serious, but we both understand that even though it is for fun, whatever the bet is, we pay up. We’ve bet all sorts of things, and on all sorts of things. But my mom finding a D&E video I hadn’t seen? I doubted it. In fact, I was sure it was going to be undead crawler, or if she would have forgotten that I played falling quickly for her, and it would be that. So we made a 50 cent wager. She shows me a video Manda apparently posted on Facebook or something of you guys playing DDR. My fault, I suppose for not stalking every aspect of your online lives like some people I wont mention in this post. But I had to pay up. So Manda cost me fifty cents. Over DDR.

      • You are making bets with your mom on whether or not you have seen a D&E video… is seriously… freaking awesome.

Did Manpans post the video of me dancing to AT-ATs in the snow? I can’t remember…

      • yes. Yes, she did. Well alt least if you’re talking about the At-At walk you did in the sound check..

      • LOL that’s hilarious Lore Hera πŸ˜€

IMHO when you’ve watched all episodes of BVVB then you’ve paid your dues… πŸ˜‰

      • I watched a number of them… I stopped because I was realizing my roommate in the dorm was, as my dad puts it, “Being very patient with you now,” with me. She never said anything, but her headphones went into her computer and her ears A LOT. I finally took the hint. x.x

She is very much NOT a geek. Not fully sure she has a sense of humor either, but then mot of the time we were together, we were doing our own thing, so we never really got to know each other.

      • You can mention the stalking people Lore. I readily admit to doing that. XD

And bye Debs! I hope you have a great time… WWOOFing. ( I feel like there are too many puns about that name). We’ll miss you! πŸ™‚

      • But it’s more fun to make you mention it. πŸ™‚

And when you say WWOOfing like that, I’m reminded of how Robert Asprin wrote Wendy and Richard into the Myth series… they were the Woof Writers. I still chuckle when I read that.

      • He had such a hard time with that series. Poor Robert πŸ™ I really enjoyed the description of how magic worked that he included in the first few books as Skeeve was learning. I wish he would have gone further with that.

      • With the force lines ::nods::

When I read the book with that author’s note, the book about the pyramids… I was on my way to Texas for a week with my friend… and it started with me bawling my eyes out.

  5. Awe man!!! I knew the April Fools Day comic was a double got-ya.. I was just too scared to say it out loud at the time… πŸ™

Bye Debs!!! Be safe!!!! It’s cool that you get a chance to do this!

Make sure that you take a Totoro shaker with you so that we can see pictures of its travels!

(the eHermit goes back to his cave and shudders in the corner repeatedly muttering something about “changes”.. )

  6. Run away. Escape from Toronto. Toronto is eating all our SOULS.

(I may not be having a very good week. Yes, I’m aware it’s only Monday.)

  7. To Debs, I’ll miss you and our little 10pm chats.
You’ll have a great time WWOOFing! Have fun and bring back pictures!

(…I highly recommend visiting Toronto at the beginning of July. Just saying.)
